How to Fund Benefits

The Campus Budget Office manages the central pool that funds benefits costs for employees paid on State fund sources. Department must transfer benefits funding to the central pool when a new FTE is created or when a FTE is increased on fund 19900A, 19900Z, 19906A, or 19924A. Choose “How to Fund Benefits” for a description of the procedure.

Non-Budgeted Employee Benefits

For employee benefit costs incurred as a result of payroll from non-budgeted salary activity, departments are responsible for providing benefits funding to the central benefits pool. Choose “Non-Budgeted Employee Benefits” for the procedure describing how to calculate and fund those costs.

Benefits Rates

The benefits rates used by the UC San Diego campus are the composite contract and grants benefits planning rates published by the UC Office of the President. Choose “Benefits Rates Chart” to view these rates.

Reimbursement of Employee Benefits

(Fund 19900A, 19900Z, 19906A, or 19924A) PPM 380-6 allows for reimbursement of funds from the central benefits pool when FTE are deleted (section V, subsection H). If a department cannot provide documentation of the original funding of the employee benefits, reimbursement will be made at the “funded rate” which is derived from the permanent budget available in the central benefits pool for the prior fiscal year. Choose “Funded Rate” to view the rate applicable to the current fiscal year.
